The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is the Canadian Police Force. They provide services at the Federal, Provincial and Municipal levels. The RCMP currently has 16 divisions. The RCMP came out with a commissioned challenge coin for each of their divisions plus the Musical Ride in 2015. The majority of the RCMP challenge coins have been created by different units throught the countries such as drug sections, organized crime units, detachments, tactical troops and emergency response team (ERT). The coins are given as a mark of appreciation to members of the units, collegues as well as civilians that have assisted police officers during the course of operations.
The RCMP have a policy on the creation of challenge coins. A commissioned RCMP coin should be 1.5 inches (38 cm) and the design should have been reviewed by the Corps Sergeant Major.
The RCMP does not have a list of all challenge coins that have been made but it’s safe to say there are over 500 RCMP coins in circulation.
